National Popcorn Day – January 19, 2021- Varanasi Travel
Popcorn has been used for everything from arts and crafts to the foundation of some of the most popular treats worldwide. You can find it just about anywhere you go. The National Popcorn Board decided that this fluffy treat needed a day of celebration and recognition of its own, and thus was born Popcorn day!The end of January holds a special day you might not have known existed, National Popcorn Day. The exact date of the celebration and its origin is unknown, but various sources report the day on January 19. Unfortunately, we do not know how or when this tradition began, but whoever started it should be congratulated for bringing the delicious snack under the spotlight. In previous years, popcorn has received a bad reputation as unhealthy junk food, but that is not the case. Popcorn is a whole grain, a very important component of a healthy diet.
The annual celebration recognizes a treat that satisfies munchies, day or night. The honored snack can be sweet or savory, caramelized, buttered or plain, molded into a candied ball, or tossed with nuts and chocolate.
Popcorn is a snack made by heating corn or maize kernels. When heated in a microwave oven or on the stovetop, the hull on the outside of the seeds breaks or “pop,” creating the delicious snack we call popcorn. Popcorn has a very long and varied history. Historians believe that corn whose kernels could be popped was first cultivated around 5000 B.C.E in Mexico. Archeologists have found evidence of the first popcorn maker – a utensil with holes and a handle – dating back to 400 C.E. in Peru. In many indigenous cultures, people use corns and popcorns for religious purposes and decoration.
“No matter how much you eat, your desire for popcorn will always make you want to eat them more. Warm wishes on Popcorn Day to you all.”
